A huge source of gratification in your work is the ability to snap into a flow state and go.
It takes different forms: Phone in a closed drawer, locked into Illustrator losing track of time. Banging out comms in a heightened state of caffeination, with a deadline. A upbeat conversation that flows directly into action.
I’m a firm believer that deep work and collaborative work are two separate things requiring two separate environments.
There’s merit in being a person who picks up the ringing phone and handles business in the moment…
…but time blocking for flowstate activities, to whatever degree possible, is a must.
As you grow in your career, you can consciously move toward more and more control of how you map out your own capacity.
